Messina Group and Verdant Specialty Solutions (https://www.verdantspecialty.com/) are seeking to hire full-time, permanent Chemical Engineering/Operations Managers for roles that require broad knowledge of general chemical and engineering disciplines.

These roles are located in Liberty and Palestine, Texas.

In these roles the successful candidates will provide direction to plants to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations (including PSM & RMP), analyze manufacturing results to assure safe and environmentally sound operations, acceptable product yields, productivity and cost. Drive development and implementation of robust management systems (ISO Standards) and improvement plans with the plant’s leadership team, provide support to the sales and business teams as required to meet customer’s needs, active engagement in SOIP process. Negotiating skills for working with governmental regulatory agencies, employees, service providers and customers.

Functional Responsibilities:

Safety: Drive all site safety rules and procedures, and lead by example, develop long term strategy for site HSSE performance improvement and risk reduction, evaluate site personnel and process safety and environmental processes for adequacy and assure compliance to governmental regulations and Verdant policy, ensure compliance for all required HSSE training, provide adequate resources for normal operations and emergency response situations., conduct periodic inspections to assure compliance to existing safety rules and procedures and to assess the effectiveness and need for other risk reduction activities, and ensure all necessary inspections, permit requirements and reports are up to date and filed in a timely manner for all Governmental, Industry, and Verdant requirements.

Leadership: Development of direct reports, and staffing/hiring activities to ensure a highly trained and effective workforce. Establish and uphold a culture of compliance, accountability and QHSE excellence based on active employee communication, coaching, development, recognition & reward.

Quality Systems: Support / adhere to all quality system requirements, including ISO 9001, European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI), Good Manufacturing Practices and Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), consistent with Manufacturing Excellence and HSSE Management Systems (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001) as it relates to this position.

Financial Acumen: Proactive awareness of the performance of the plant and the plant’s fixed cost. Manage cost and profitability of the plant to meet annual budgets and targets. Create capital spending plans to ensure regulatory compliance and improve operating costs or capabilities.

Project Management: Provide hands-on leadership and project management for cross functional efforts (Production, Supply Chain, Maintenance, HSE, Finance, & Commercial) that are sometimes needed to win and launch new business.
