Firm Background:

Our client is a lower middle market private equity firm with a focused approach to investing and a hands-on operating philosophy to help grow and improve the profitability of each of its portfolio companies. They seek to achieve well-defined goals with its partners by identifying and supporting growth opportunities and assisting with operational improvements. This PE Firm focuses on building solid relationships with proven management teams who share their commitment to integrity, professionalism, achievement, growth, and success in business.

Position:

The operating executive will be employed by the firm to work within the firm’s operations team. The Operations Team works throughout the deal cycle of each portfolio company to evaluate and improve company performance in partnership with management. The operations team focuses on general management, executive coaching, human capital and team building, operations and supply chain, information technology, data analytics, digital transformation, digital marketing, automation, acquisition due diligence, and systems integration. This position will add capacity to those existing efforts, but will provide leadership and focus in the area of data analytics. These initiatives include creating or supplementing metrics and key performance indicators when needed at portfolio companies for all levels of the organization. The position will also develop capability at the portfolio company to collect, display, analyze and democratize data across the organization to ensure its employees make timely and data informed decisions (e.g. production decisions, pricing decisions, customer allocation decisions, etc.).

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify relevant data from all internal and external sources;
  • Expedite reporting capabilities to create more efficient analysis;
  • Find new KPIs from existing data and put in actions to improve the KPIs with time;
  • Analyze and auto generate reports, converting data into actionable information;
  • Use data to identify bad process and improve processes and products to discover market and pricing opportunities;
  • Improve digital marketing strategy by using SEO and SEM to drive awareness and conversion.
  • Establish master data guidelines and processes
  • Migrate data between legacy systems into common systems
  • Work with management on appropriate cyber security improvements
  • Coach management on how to use the data to scale their capabilities across the organization. 

Post-closing portfolio support (ongoing):

  • Provide facilitation and leadership to portfolio company IT staff and third-party firms specialized in data extraction, data pipelines, and the construction of data warehouses.
  • Create a data warehouse for each company if needed.
  • Serve as a bridge between each portfolio company team and HCI operations & deal teams in defining, developing and implementing key metrics and dashboards to help drive the business, including where to get those metrics and how to convert data into actionable information;
  • Lead the development of dashboards using data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI, leading the dashboard definition discussion with HCI and the portfolio company.
  • Create specific reports out of results on a monthly and quarterly basis and to compare to ops value creation plan and modify as needed alongside management, and to support monthly financial reporting;
  • Meet with portfolio company HCI ops leader frequently to review progress, resourcing and priorities; support ops team as needed on all technology-oriented portfolio companies.
  • Expand internal data analytics capabilities and create department specific KPIs;
  • Assist with add-on acquisitions data integration;
  • Use historical sales data to drive digital marketing and sales strategy.
